Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer in Technology as part of Commercial Corporate & Investment Bank Technology (CCIBT) engineering and transformation office.

The full stack BookBuild Principal Engineer will join the Banking Primary Markets Technology team within Corporate and Investment Bank Technology (CCIBT). This team supports the issuance of new Debt and Equity Securities to the Markets. This business is in a strategic growth phase and is investing in foundational software solutions for the future. This role is pivotal to the success of strategic initiatives in a Front Office Markets environment and is designed for an engineer who thrives in high-performance, front-to-back delivery environments.

As a hands-on Tech Lead, you will spearhead the design and development of BookBuilder systems which enable our Syndicate Desks to collaborate with other Sell-Side Brokers to issue new securities to Buy-Side clients, thereby raising funding for our Issuer clients. BookBuilder systems are integrated with other Broker and Investor systems via 3rd party venues such as S&P IssueNet and DirectBooks. This is a complex real-time environment which requires robust, nimble systems. The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical leadership, deep domain knowledge in capital markets, and a passion for building scalable, resilient software solutions using modern technologies such as Java, React, Spring and Kafka.

In this role, you will:

Lead the design and architecture of robust and efficient, cloud-native applications using modern frameworks and technologies

Do hands-on coding and software development to create high-quality, scalable applications

Lead technical design discussions and provide architecture thought leadership to the team

Ensure best practices in coding, architecture, and security are followed

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions that meet business needs.

Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation

Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence

Champion the implementation of SOLID principles and software engineering best practices across the codebase

Collaborate with senior management and traders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions

Drive technical decision-making and provide thought leadership in architecture reviews and design discussions

Ensure high standards of code quality, performance, and maintainability through rigorous code reviews and testing practices

Provide technical support and resolve issues related to supported applications

Create test data and conduct interface and unit tests

Design, code, test, debug, and document programs using Agile development practice

Required Qualifications:

7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

6+ years of experience in full stack java development; front-end Java with Spring framework for back-end

4+ years of experience with Apache Kafka for messaging and stream processing

1+ years of experience developing Capital Markets applications with strong preference for Primary Issuance Domain

Desired Qualifications:

4+ years of experience with build tools such as Maven or Gradle

4+ years of experience with code quality tools like SonarQube

4+ years of experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk, Grafana, AppDynamics, Elastic, or OpenTelemetry

4+ years of Capital Markets Fixed Income domain

3+ years of experience with Agile, CI/CD, and DevOps practices using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, or Tekton

3+ years of experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid infrastructure setups

Experience using OpenShift / Kubernetes container platforms

Experience designing and delivering cloud-native, microservices-oriented solutions at enterprise scale in financial services or regulated sectors

Experience with test automation using tools such as Selenium

Ability to collaborate effectively in a multi-cultural, matrixed environment

Strong delivery focus and ability to work in a fast-paced enterprise environment

Pay Range

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.
