About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Manager of Data Protection Engineering to lead the transformation of the enterprise data protection platform. This leader will drive the modernization of backup, recovery, cyber resilience, and data security capabilities across on-premises, hybrid, and public cloud environments. A key focus of this role will be accelerating the adoption of modern data protection platform, enabling cloud-integrated recovery services, cyber vaulting, ransomware resilience, and operational automation at enterprise scale.

This leader will be responsible for a geographically distributed engineering organization supporting more than 500 PBs of protected data across critical business applications and infrastructure. The role requires strong technical leadership, strategic planning, and execution capabilities to deliver resilient, compliant, and cost-effective data protection services that align with Wells Fargo's cloud transformation and cyber resilience objectives.

The Senior Manager will partner closely with Infrastructure Engineering teams, Cybersecurity, Architecture, Risk, Application Development, and CIO teams to develop and execute a multi-year roadmap that modernizes the enterprise data protection ecosystem and enables greater self-service, automation, and cloud adoption.

In this role, you will:

Define and execute the enterprise data protection strategy, aligning with cloud, cyber resilience, and infrastructure modernization initiatives

Lead the transition from traditional backup architectures to modern, policy-driven platforms leveraging cloud-native protection services, immutable storage, and cyber recovery capabilities

Drive adoption of hybrid and multi-cloud data protection solutions across GCP, Azure, and AWS environments

Develop long-term roadmaps that improve recovery outcomes, reduce operational complexity, and optimize infrastructure costs

Ensure data protection services support evolving business, regulatory, and resiliency requirements

Engineering Leadership

Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of engineers focused on platform engineering, automation, cloud integration, and service reliability

Establish engineering standards, automation frameworks, and operational practices that improve scalability and reduce manual effort

Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence

Drive modernization initiatives focused on Infrastructure as Code, API-driven automation, self-service consumption, and platform engineering principles

Cyber Resilience & Risk Management

Partner with Cybersecurity teams to enhance ransomware protection, cyber recovery, immutable storage strategies, and recovery testing programs.

Ensure engineering solutions meet enterprise security, compliance, governance, audit, and regulatory requirements

Lead resiliency assessments and recovery readiness initiatives to improve recovery point objectives (RPO) and recovery time objectives (RTO)

Identify and mitigate operational, security, and technology risks across the data protection ecosystem

Vendor & Technology Management

Serve as the executive engineering partner for strategic vendors including Cohesity and cloud providers

Influence product roadmaps, feature prioritization, and platform enhancements to meet enterprise requirements

Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends in cyber resilience, cloud backup, AI-driven operations, and data security

Drive technology lifecycle management and modernization efforts across the backup and recovery portfolio

Team Member Leadership Expectations

Required Qualifications:

7+ years of Infrastructure Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

3+ years of management or leadership experience

Experience leading large-scale infrastructure or platform engineering teams supporting mission-critical environments

Desired Qualifications

Deep expertise in enterprise data protection, backup and recovery, cyber resilience, and business continuity solutions

Strong experience with Cohesity and modern enterprise backup platforms, including Rubrik, NetBackup, Data Domain, or similar technologies

Experience protecting workloads across hybrid cloud environments including Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure, and Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Knowledge of cloud-native backup, disaster recovery, immutable storage, cyber vaulting, and ransomware recovery architectures

Experience developing and executing technology modernization and cloud transformation roadmaps

Strong understanding of automation, Infrastructure as Code, API integration, and platform engineering practices

Proven ability to influence executive stakeholders and communicate technology strategy to senior leadership

Experience partnering with Cybersecurity, Risk, Compliance, and Architecture organizations

Strong strategic planning, organizational leadership, and vendor management skills

Experience operating large-scale infrastructure environments with high availability, resiliency, and regulatory requirements

Agile delivery and product-oriented operating model experience preferred

Exceptional verbal, written, and executive communication skills

Pay Range

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$139,000.00 - $239,000.00
